Indian students are now heading to the United States for their studies and filling up American universities with admission applications. According to a data released by US Embassy, there have been an increasing number of Indian students applying for student visas to study in the US and the visa applicationsexceeded over 20 percent in comparison with the one last year. In 2010, there were 24,500 students granted US visas to join the American universitiesand most of them applied for Masters and 14.5 percent registered for a grad school. In addition, Pratibha Jain, a counselor said, "But this year has been phenomenal rise in number of undergraduate students". He also noticed a shift in attitude of students, "Earlier they all want to go to 10 to 15 famous universities, now there is a range of good second tier colleges that charge about 10 to 15 lakh annually are also on Indian students' radar now ". The significant statistic of applications for US visas was confirmed by the officials at American embassy: "The U.S. has greatly expanded its counselor staffing and educational outreach initiatives to ensure that prospective students can get visa appointments and information they need".
